Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) issued the following statement in response to the shooting at practice for the Congressional Baseball Game:

“My thoughts and prayers are with my colleagues, especially Rep. Steve Scalise, their staffs, and law enforcement following this morning’s horrific shooting. I’m particularly grateful to the Capitol Police for their heroic work and bravery.

“The annual baseball and softball games are examples of the best of Congress — Members coming together across party lines in the spirit of cooperation and friendly competition to raise funds for charity. I hope we can all follow their lead and come together across the country today, realizing that there is far more that unites us as Americans than divides us.”
